Imagery Style

We have a library of images available on the DAM, and this should provide you with enough approved images for your work. See here some examples of our imagery.

Some key points to follow with imagery:

  • Your subject must contain people who would interact or be affected by Octopus
  • A sense of that person’s environment
  • Positivity, diversity and personality

What to avoid in images:

Avoid images that look staged, cliche and generic. We don’t behave like a generic finance company so let’s not look like one either. No images of gambling or risk taking, no brand names and try to avoid obvious metaphors like plants for growth or mountains for success.

Key Line imagery

We use a key line around all imagery that is used in a hero/header format. Preferably your hero will always be a person but in the instance where this focus is on an object (i.e. Solar farm, wind farm, etc.) and this option is not available, the line element can be used on these also.

Secondary imagery

Please head over to our collage page to see how we use this style as supporting imagery.

Hero Imagery treatment

Step 1:

To get the correct line weight, measure the width of the widest part of your subject.

Your line weight will be 2% of that amount.

Step 2:

Take the width and do the following calculation.

3098 x .02 = 61.96

Round that number up or down to the nearest decimal point (Photoshop will do this for you automatically if you forget).

Step 3:

Next, use the pen tool to outline your subject to ensure a smooth line and use the number you have calculated as your line weight.
